Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machine Setup and Operation

Set up and operate lathe machines (manual or CNC) to perform tasks such as turning, facing, drilling, boring, threading, and tapering on various materials.

Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job orders to understand dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.

Mount and align workpieces, install cutting tools, and select proper speeds and feeds based on material and cutting conditions.

Use precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure accuracy during and after machining.
2. Quality Control and Inspection
-
Inspect finished products for defects or out-of-tolerance dimensions and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy.

Maintain quality by following set processes and procedures for measurements, part verification, and documentation.

Perform in-process inspection and final inspection before delivering parts for further processing or assembly.

Record production data and maintain logs of completed tasks.
3. Maintenance and Machine Care
-
Conduct routine maintenance on lathe machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.

Report machine malfunctions or wear and tear to the maintenance department promptly.

Keep the work area clean and organized to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Follow all workshop safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
4. Production Efficiency and Time Management

Operate machines to meet daily or hourly production targets.

Optimize machining time without compromising part quality.

Minimize material wastage and rework through proper tool usage and machining practices.

Coordinate with other machinists, supervisors, and quality control teams to ensure smooth workflow and on-time delivery.
5. Tooling and Material Handling

Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and accessories for the job.

Monitor tool condition and replace worn or damaged tools as needed.

Handle raw materials, semi-finished, and finished goods with care to prevent damage.

Ensure proper labeling and storage of machined components.
