Mechanical Design Engineer Jobs Opening in Sharpdesign Technologies at Ambattur, Chennai
Job Description
· Gathering information from customers on their needs and developing the requirement to match their desires
· Designing all pieces of the diagram and analysing how they’ll fit together
· Creating diagrams and models that customers may need for each application
· Troubleshooting problems with software and aiding in the creation of patches and updates to address them
· Ensuring that stages of development reach completion on time according to project milestones
· Documenting all aspects of the application for future upgrades and maintenance
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Design & Development
-
Design mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo).

Develop 2D drawings, 3D models, and detailed BOMs (Bill of Materials).

Create functional prototypes and improve them through iterative testing and redesign.
2. Engineering Calculations & Analysis
-
Perform mechanical calculations for stress, strain, heat transfer, material selection, and tolerance analysis.

Apply engineering principles (e.g., mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics) in design.

Use simulation tools like ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation to validate design performance.
3. Documentation & Compliance

Generate complete documentation sets: engineering drawings, technical specifications, and user manuals.

Ensure designs adhere to national and international standards (ISO, ASME, ANSI, DIN).

Maintain accurate records for design reviews, change requests, and version control.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
-
Work with production teams to ensure manufacturability (DFM) and ease of assembly (DFA).

Coordinate with purchasing and vendors for component availability and cost optimization.

Support quality assurance with inspection reports, tolerancing, and testing plans.
5. Testing, Prototyping & Troubleshooting
-
Participate in prototype testing, data collection, and root-cause analysis.

Troubleshoot design or production issues and implement corrective actions.

Monitor field performance (if applicable) and integrate feedback into product updates.
6. Continuous Improvement
-
Contribute to design improvements in cost, reliability, sustainability, and performance.

Stay current with trends in materials, manufacturing technologies, and CAD tools.

Participate in Kaizen, Six Sigma, or lean product development initiatives.
Technical Skills Required:

Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, Inventor, or similar).

Good knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and documentation.

Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or CFD tools (preferred).

Knowledge of manufacturing processes (casting, machining, welding, injection molding, sheet metal).

Understanding of material science—metals, plastics, composites, etc.
