Role Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (PostgreSQL) responsible for the performance, availability, security, and reliability of the database infrastructure supporting a mission-critical banking platform used across multiple states.
This role is critical in ensuring the protection of farmer financial data and Aadhaar-linked KCC records while maintaining high system availability in compliance with RBI, NABARD, and cybersecurity regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Administration
- Monitor database health, performance, and availability on a daily basis
- Manage PostgreSQL environments including query monitoring, locking analysis, and connection pooling (PgBouncer)
- Maintain database maintenance operations such as VACUUM, ANALYZE, and log management
Performance Optimization
- Analyze and optimize slow queries using pg_stat_statements
- Design and maintain indexes and optimize query performance
- Monitor cache hit ratio, table bloat, and overall database efficiency
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Manage PostgreSQL streaming replication and DR environments
- Monitor replication lag and ensure failover readiness
- Participate in periodic DR drills and maintain recovery documentation
Backup & Recovery
- Manage automated backups and WAL archiving
- Perform regular backup restoration testing and ensure data integrity
- Maintain backup retention policies aligned with regulatory requirements
Security & Compliance
- Implement strong database security including RBAC, SSL/TLS, and IP-based access controls
- Maintain audit logging using pgaudit
- Ensure compliance with RBI IT Framework, CERT-In guidelines, and IT Act requirements
Monitoring & Alerting
- Maintain monitoring stack (Prometheus, Grafana, pg_exporter)
- Configure alerts for critical database metrics such as replication lag, disk usage, slow queries, and connection limits
Capacity & Change Management
- Plan database upgrades, maintenance, and infrastructure capacity
- Coordinate production changes with rollback planning and documentation
Required Skills
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL administration in production environments
- Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization
- Knowledge of replication, failover, and disaster recovery
- Familiarity with Linux systems and database monitoring tools
- Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, pgBadger or similar monitoring tools
- Strong understanding of database security and compliance practices
Preferred Experience
- Experience in banking, fintech, or regulated environments
- Knowledge of RBI / financial data security frameworks
- Experience managing high availability PostgreSQL clusters
