Recognizing the need for a Medical College in this area, the Government of India, in August 1957, recommended in its Second Five Year Plan opening of a Composite Medical College. Irwin Hospital was obviously chosen to be the venue for this college. Maulana Azad Medical College is attached to this Hospital.
