Job Description
Key Responsibilities
A. Steel Fixer Responsibilities
-
Reinforcement Preparation & Installation
-
Interpret structural and engineering drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and layout plans.
-
Measure, cut, bend, and shape reinforcement bars (rebars) and mesh using hand tools, power tools, or bending machines.
-
Tie reinforcement bars together using wire and fix them into position in forms and shuttering.
-
Install rebar cages in beams, columns, slabs, footings, pile caps, and retaining structures.

Check rebar spacing, cover, and alignment before concrete pouring.

Site Coordination
-
Collaborate with site engineers, supervisors, and carpenters to ensure proper reinforcement placement.
-
Communicate any design discrepancies or clashes with the site engineer for resolution.
-
Ensure reinforcement is placed securely and adequately supported to prevent movement during concreting.

B. Mason – Block & Concrete Work Responsibilities
-
Block Masonry
-
Perform brick/block laying, wall partitioning, and alignment based on approved layout drawings.
-
Mix mortar and apply it uniformly to bond concrete blocks or bricks securely.
-
Cut blocks to fit corners, openings, and edges using appropriate tools.
-
Ensure level, plumb, and alignment of walls using spirit levels, plumb bobs, and string lines.

Install door/window frames and coordinate with other trades like plumbing or electrical.

Concrete Work
-
Prepare surfaces and formwork before concreting activities.
-
Mix, pour, spread, and level concrete using hand tools or mechanical vibrators.
-
Smooth and finish surfaces using trowels, floats, and screeding tools.
-
Cure concrete as per specifications to achieve required strength and durability.

Assist in casting beams, slabs, columns, and foundations as per structural drawings.

C. Safety & Quality Compliance

Follow all construction site safety rules, including use of PPE (safety boots, gloves, helmets, etc.).

Identify and report unsafe working conditions or faulty equipment to the supervisor.

Comply with company standards, local building codes, and quality assurance procedures.

Maintain clean and organized work areas to reduce hazards and promote efficiency.

Ensure proper usage and storage of tools, equipment, and construction materials.
