Job Description
Network Security Engineer – Roles & Responsibilities
1. Security Infrastructure Management
Configure, maintain, and monitor firewalls (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point)
Manage IDS/IPS systems (Intrusion Detection/Prevention)
Handle VPN solutions (IPSec, SSL VPN, Remote Access VPN)
Implement network segmentation and access control
2. Network Monitoring & Threat Detection
Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity
Analyse logs from firewall, SIEM, routers, switches
Detect and respond to threats like malware, phishing, DoS attacks
Use security tools like SIEM (Splunk, QRadar, ArcSight)
3. Vulnerability Management
Perform regular vulnerability assessments
Patch management – apply security patches and updates
Fix misconfigurations and security gaps
4. Incident Response & Troubleshooting
Investigate and resolve security incidents
Perform root cause analysis
Document security incidents and implement preventive measures
5. Access & Identity Security
Configure and manage AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting)
Support solutions like RADIUS, TACACS+, Active Directory
Implement network access controls (NAC)
