Job Description
Security Engineer – L2 Roles and Responsibilities
Key Roles:
A Security Engineer – L2 is responsible for handling intermediate-level cybersecurity tasks, monitoring security systems, responding to incidents, and supporting security infrastructure improvements.
Responsibilities:
1. Security Monitoring & Incident Response
Monitor security alerts from SIEM, firewall, IDS/IPS, antivirus, and EDR tools.
Investigate suspicious activities and security incidents.
Perform initial triage, analysis, and escalation of critical threats.
Respond to malware, phishing, ransomware, and unauthorized access incidents.
2. Vulnerability Management
Conduct vulnerability scans using security tools.
Analyze scan reports and prioritize remediation.
Coordinate with IT teams to patch vulnerabilities.
Verify fixes after remediation.
3. Access Control & Identity Security
Review user access permissions.
Support IAM processes such as user provisioning/deprovisioning.
Monitor privileged account usage.
Ensure MFA and password policies are followed.
4. Security Tools Administration
Manage and tune security tools like:
SIEM
Firewall
Endpoint Protection
Email Security
DLP solutions
Fine-tune alerts to reduce false positives.
