POSITION: Senior Medical Coding Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Operations
LOCATION: Chennai / Bangalore/Coimbatore/Mysore (Inhouse)

DIRECT REPORT TO: Senior Manager, Medical Coding
Job Function:
A quick learner who adapts to the coding processes of new clients within the stipulated time frame. Starts work on the new project (live work) and gains hands-on experience. Masters the new project, trains and mentors the Coding Team to work on the new project by standardizing processes and developing guidelines. Transitions the new project to the Coding Production Team.
After the project is transitioned to production, moves into the role of an Auditor:
§ Audits to identify down-coded or upcoded services; prepares and distributes audit results/reports periodically, identifies areas of improvement and provides feedback to the coders.
§ Provides education and training on accurate coding practices.
§ Serves as a subject matter expert and maintains up-to-date working knowledge of coding guidelines in order to act as a resource and point person for issues and questions from coders & customers.
MUST HAVE CORE COMPETENCIES, CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
1. Must also be ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS certified / compliant.
2. CPC/CIC/COC (AAPC) / CCS (AHIMA) certification will be great.
3. Must be a subject matter expert with minimum of 5 years coding experience in either one or more of the following specialties:
· Inpatient DRG
· Surgery Coding
· Emergency Department (Facility)
· Outpatient
4. Must have at least 5 years of unbroken relevant coding experience in acute care. In short, you should be so good that you would be determined as the organization’s best coding and auditing expert with a competence level rated as excellent.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the context of being able to provide feedback on mails and calls with coders so they don’t mistake it for criticism and dialogue with US clients that facilitate problem definition and solving over mails and calls.
6. Ability to identify problems, escalate, work with peers, reporting manager to develop course of action and follow through to resolution is required.
7. Experience of minimum 1 year in working with new clients via remote access and ensuring their acceptance of coding delivery and accuracy is a must.
Desired Profile:
Ø Graduate (Preferably in life sciences)
Ø Good knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology
Ø Excellence in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines
